To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.

1Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.footnote afootnote b

2He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.footnote c

3How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

4They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.footnote d

5My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

6He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

7In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

8Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

9Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.footnote e

10Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

11God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.footnote f

12Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

Waiting on God

For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.

1In God alone my soul finds rest;my salvation comes from Him. 2He alone is my rock and my salvation. He is my fortress;I will never be shaken.

3How long will you threaten a man? Will all of you throw him downlike a leaning wallor a tottering fence? 4They fully intend to cast him down from his lofty perch;they delight in lies;with their mouths they bless, but inwardly they curse.Selah 5Rest in God alone, O my soul, for my hope comes from Him. 6He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken. 7My salvation and my honor rest on God, my strong rock;my refuge is in God. 8Trust in Him at all times, O people;pour out your hearts before Him.God is our refuge.Selah 9Lowborn men are but a vapor;the exalted are but a lie.Weighed on the scale, they go up;together they are but a vapor. 10Place no trust in extortionor false hope in stolen goods. If your riches increase,do not set your heart upon them.

11God has spoken once;I have heard this twice:that power belongs to God, 12and loving devotion to You, O Lord. For You will repay each manaccording to his deeds.footnote a
