About the books
Spurgeon was a Baptist pastor in London who preached at the Metropolitan Tabernacle to thousands every week. These readings first came out as two books, Morning by Morning (1865) and Evening by Evening (1868), and are now usually printed together. Each one takes a single verse and stays with it for a few minutes.
Faith’s Checkbook (1888) is Spurgeon again: a promise of God for each day, with a short comment on taking him at his word. Daily Light on the Daily Path (Samuel Bagster and his family, 19th century) is Scripture only, verses gathered around one thought for each morning and evening, in the King James wording.
The page opens on today’s date by your own calendar. Use Day before and Day after to read others. The verse at the top of each reading opens the passage in the Bible, with a commentary beside it. The Today panel in every chapter shows the reading from the book you chose (the morning one until 4 pm).
